Why become an apprentice?
Here are six good reasons:
Number one. it’s a paid job.
Get paid from day one. As your skills grow, your pay grows.
It’s hands-on career training; they’re teaching you the job which leads to certification.
Once you have your credentials you can move on in your career in the trade, and with your career advancement you’ll make connections.
Plus you’ll have the opportunity to apply your certifications towards a degree. It’s getting to be more common now that employers who are having to look for good employees are actually giving much better benefits, including paid college education.
I’m not necessarily against college. If you’ve seen some of my videos I sound really anti-college, but I think college is only important if you need it, and it’s best if somebody else pays for it.
So you can see how a trade apprenticeship program can be a pretty big deal. Such a big deal in fact that Pres. Donald Trump in 2017 signed a presidential executive order expanding apprenticeships in America.
As part of this effort, apprenticeship.gov is an apprenticeship program list online that you can search by job title or distance from a location.
So for example, I chose electrician. I’m looking for an electrician apprentice program in Nashville, Tennessee. So I click the button and I go to this next page, which is a list of results for Nashville and the surrounding area.
Click this button to adjust location, and limit the search radius. For example, you can change the location from the different towns nearby to make it more precise, plus you can adjust the radius out for how far you’re willing to travel.
You can also click this button for a map, so you can see the exact location for a listing. On the left-hand side here we have the listings for the apprenticeships.
You can scroll down through them. You can also load more.
On the right-hand side is the details of the apprenticeship. For example, if you click on the listing on the left then the details will click up on the right.
Included in the details is the who, the where, the job description, the qualifications, how to get in touch, a list of similar jobs, and then there’s an apply button.
Click the apply button and it takes you directly to the application form. It’s that easy.
Well that’s it. Go to apprenticeship.gov and get started!
